Epiphone Les paul custom or Gretsch Double Jet?

which guitar would you go with? any other suggestions like a gretsch pro jet or something in that 500-700 price range?

They are both good guitars. In all fairness I'll have to say that I haven't tried the Epiphone though. I own a Gretsch just like this and it sounds just great.

You probably want to consider that the larger humbuckers in the Gibson/Epiphone sounds somewhat different than the pickups on the Gretsch. The Gretsch is somewhat lighter in tone - a tad more "sparkly" than my Gibson Les Paul custom.

Another thing is that the Epiphone has a Bigsby vibrato tailpiece, and this is a little harder to keep in tune. You should at least consider changing the bridge to a roller bridge if you want to use the vibrato live.

Either way, you can't go much wrong with either of these guitars. It's more down to a matter of taste and how well they have been set up.
