Grab A Great Deal On A Practice Guitar Amplifier
I've in the past week purchased a tiny Vox 3 watt mini amp for practice and I must say I am really blown away by the result. It's very versatile with a range of effects and tonal variety and to my surprise it's really my guitar amp of choice for recording, not only demos but real releases.
I was actually pretty impressed at the options available prior to deciding on the Vox. There are plenty of great quality and cost-effective options from makers like Orange, Fender, Danelectro and Crate to name just a few and they're really affordable, I'm talking under $20 for some of the amps from Danelectro. I found an awesome review site that provides some in depth info on nearly any practice amp on the market at practiceamp.net which made the whole thing very easy.
The neat thing about getting a top quality practice amp is the mobility it gives you. When you have a guitar amp that weighs less than an honest to goodness guitar and is no bigger than a typical shoebox you do not have any of the characteristic loading in issues that plague most of us when we want to set up for a gig or possibly even a jam with full band.
I generally play a Marshall JCM900 Stack and love it but there are times particularly when I need to practice that it's fully unrealistic, not only is it's size an issue but most bigger amps don't truly sound great unless really cranked and that isn't going to endear you to neighbours late in the evening or if you've a young family like me.
There are also some options available for iPhone but after testing some of these out I was a little underwhelmed although I've been told some of the options available on the iPad are far better.
So take it from me if you are finding your larger guitar amp not extremely practical for practice try out a practice amp and try the reviews at practiceamp.net it is a great site and actually handy.
