Double Bass Pedal

William F. Ludwig made the first bass drum pedal in 1909. This paved the way for the modern drum kit. A bass pedal is made of a “footplate” that is pressed to pull a chain, belt or metal mechanism downward which then causes a “beater” to move towards the drumhead. The double bass pedal allows the drummer to make more beats with two beaters making the sound of the drum set more powerful.

Buying tips when buying double bass pedals:

Choose pedal belts made of plastic embedded with steel cable for stretch resistance and durability.
Choose one with adjustable belt or chain drives to allow easy change of angle of the footboard. This is important for comfort while playing.
For maximum traction, choose one with rubber discs or dots on the foot pedal to prevent slipping.
