What's the best way to switch a baby to another formula?
I am going to switch my son from enfamil nutramigen to Similac Advance w/ iron. He's not allergic to cow's milk which is the main reason.
What's the best way to switch..
Never mix an elemental formula such as Nutramigen with a regular cow's milk formula like Similac Advance. I just switched from Similac Alimentum back to Similac Sensitive R.S. for my baby's reflux and I didn't do it gradually. The first time he had a slight bellyache (slight like he wasn't screaming) and I used some Gripe Water and he was fine. For the rest of that day, I mixed Gripe Water w/his formula and he was like a new baby...laughing and wanting to play after feedings 
That stuff works wonders for a baby's tummy...Try Baby's Bliss from Walgreens or CVS
It (the switch) just upsets them slightly because elemental formulas are pre-digested meaning they go right through w/out hanging out in the intestines. When you switch back to a regular formula that isn't pre-digested, the intestines get a little confused. But it's nothing too crazy and a little Gripe Water will have your baby's digestive system calm. Just make sure not to buy Gripe Water w/sodium bicarbonate or alcohol!!! Most are all natural but there still are some containing those ingredients which are actually harmful to a baby...good luck
